Too Busy? Beat Chaos with These Hacks!

  • Chuck Johnson

Is your life just a never-ending to-do list?

Work deadlines, meetings, errands, emails—then you get home, and it’s dinner, homework, bedtime routines…it seems like chaos from sunup to sun down. Before you know it, you’re crashing into bed, exhausted, only to do it all over again tomorrow.

The problem? You’re so busy trying to stay on top of everything that you’re missing the moments that actually matter—with your wife, your kids, and even yourself.

You don’t need more time. You need a better way to take control of the chaos. Here are some simple and actionable strategies that can help you!

1. Start Owning Your Schedule (Instead of Letting It Own You)

Your calendar will always fill itself if you let it. The key is taking control before the day takes over.

  • Time-block your priorities—schedule family time and personal time first, then fit work around it.

  • Say no more often—not every request, meeting, or opportunity is worth your time.

  • Simplify decision-making—set recurring appointments, automate where you can, meal prep a week at a time.

I used to feel guilty about blocking off time in my schedule for non-work things. But once I started treating family time like an unmissable meeting, I finally stopped feeling like I was constantly behind.

2. Win the First Hour of Your Day

Most men start the day reacting—scrolling emails, checking notifications, jumping straight into work. But how you start your day sets the tone for everything else.

  • Resist the urge to check your phone first thing.

  • Take 5-10 minutes to plan your top priorities.

  • Do something that fills you up—prayer, reading, exercise, or even just sitting in silence.

I used to wake up and immediately dive into work, thinking I was getting a head start. In reality, I was starting my day in reactive mode. Now, I begin with clarity, and I get more done in less time—without feeling rushed.

3. Be Fully Present Where You Are

Nothing will make life feel more chaotic than trying to do two things at once—checking emails at the dinner table, thinking about work while playing with your kids, or mentally running through your to-do list while your wife is talking.

  • When you’re at work, focus on work.

  • When you’re at home, be fully home.

  • Give your family your presence—not just your physical body.

I used to think multitasking was the answer. But the truth? I was giving half of my attention to everything and never feeling caught up. When I started fully engaging in each moment, I actually felt less stressed and more productive.

You Don’t Have to Drown in Busyness

Life isn’t going to slow down on its own. But when you start owning your time, protecting your energy, and being fully present, the chaos stops controlling you—and you start feeling in control of your life again.

P.s. My Birthday is just around the corner and I am so excited to enjoy my friends and family while we celebrate. Not to get too emotional here, but in years past I would have stressed about my birthday. The planning, the amount of time it would take, the possibility of dropping the ball at work, all because I let my schedule and my work own me. It has radically changed my life to take back control of my days! If you need help implementing any of the concepts found in my emails, shoot me a reply and let me know. I would be glad to help you!
